I like to think of it as ‘Autoresponders 2.0’ — where you can go beyond standard ‘drip’ campaigns and design complicated user journeys with the help of ‘IFTTT’ (if this, then that) type workflows.

Typically, with marketing automation, you create a flowchart in which emails are sent in response to user actions such as email opens, link clicks, site visits, and transactions made.

AWeber includes a marketing automation component called ‘AWeber Campaigns’ that provides some of this capability.
